Ticket to the Show

show ticketsI know that I must be in hurry to get the ticket for Robin William show this month at Rosemont Theatre. No need to tell that he is my favorite singer with his golden voice singing love songs and modern ones. One thing I get hesitated is that where to get the ticket. Most of my co workers who are big fans of him have already got the tickets. They got Rosemont Theater tickets directly from there. Oh my! It is a long way to get to Rosemont from here. That is why they were absence from the office last Friday. They actually should have told me before going there so that I could hope them to get one for me.
To my surprise, my Boss is also a fan of Robin William and he has just got a couple of tickets ordered. What is that? He told me that he has ordered a couple of tickets for him and his family via online information to a site that sells the tickets. He said that I could also do that if I wish. I certainly will do. I thanked him after he informed me the site address.
Returning to my work desk, I typed the site address. The site is so simple but promising a full service for the order of many kinds of tickets of various events would be on around the States. Ordering the ticket for Robin William is not a trouble as I feared. It takes only minutes to order though it takes about a day for the order confirmation. Well, it is better I guess than I have to go directly to Rosemont only to get the ticket.
The site facilitates a lot more than I assumed; not only tickets for Rosemont Theatre events but there are many more than that. They provide Staples Center Tickets which I know Britney Spears will performs there in September. I make myself sure to get 2 tickets. My wife will be very happy because Britney is her favorite singer. Another thing attracts me is that Soldier Field Tickets are available for the performance of its homer Chicago Bears at the end of this year. I know this exactly because it is my favorite football team. But, I wonder whether my wife would like to go along with me to see my favorite team playing. Well, I guess I should ask her.

Gold Cash

gold coinIn planning for this week business travel, I need more things than I usually prepare since this overseas travel will take me more than 15 days for visiting our supplying companies throughout the globe. Clothing and personal equipments don’t seem to be essential to carry along with me; what I exactly need is to bring enough cash along with me. I don’t want to get trouble and confused just for exchanging my US cash to domestic currency wherever I will be later.
Hence, I need to buy gold coin. I know that most of the countries I will be visiting later easily accept payment in form of gold. This will also make me easy to do transaction; gold does work well as a means of payment. But where I could buy gold?
Well, I don’t have to work hard to get the gold. By the time of travel discussion, my Boss offers me whether I want to take cash for the travel budget or a kind of credit card. I know it is my time to tell him what I wish. I tell him that I prefer gold cash. He seems to think for a while but then agrees and soon provides me with some bullion. Well, it values big but you have to consider also what I will face to accomplish my business trips.
To buy gold coin is not strange for me, as a matter of fact; however, I have never experienced to buy bullion. It is safe to have gold in my bag but I must really be careful in handling my bullion since it is my whole trip cash, and it is my choice of travel budget. Well, when thinking about bringing cash, whatever it shapes, the safety is all yours. Don’t you agree with me?

My Math Mate

I hate this! It has been many times I get low score on algebra. How come? I used to like math, especially Algebra. I even got good score on that lesson from elementary to high schools. I wonder this is because I have been so busy with my job in the factory that it causes me lost my concentration on study. I also missed some Algebra tutoring on several subjects and I actually regret it. I wish I don’t have to go to work so that I could pay my full attention on study; or perhaps in the opposite.
Getting inside the cafĂ© in the campus, I see my friends and greet them. Two of them wave their hands to call me whilst the other is focusing on his laptop. Sitting next to him I am so curious of what he is doing with his laptop. I don’t think I could disturb him with some questions so I glance at his laptop display.
He is busily typing and copying some calculation and formulas from an math mateonline Algebra tutor. Aha! This is actually I also need. I was about to ask my friends how to get better Algebra help, yet the help is coming by itself. This is great. I must then out how and what site to get in touch with and I have to chase the subjects and formulas that I missed from my Algebra tutor.
Not too long, I then get busily online with my own laptop. Browsing the internet I search for the ‘Algebra’ site as recommended by my friends. When I get it, I browse through all parts of Algebra whilst refreshing my mind. This free online Algebra help really gives us very good assistance; All Algebra subjects are available here, from the very basic level of beginners, intermediate to advance difficulties as I could say. All explanation and formulas are so clearly explained and described. The site even facilitates visitors with Algebra 2 help which functions to solve Algebra 2 problems, to work on basic concepts and to get help with my Algebra 2 home assignment too. Wow. This is perfect. Well, I must keep in touch with this site anytime, so that I don’t have to worry about my Algebra score anymore.

Proper Shoes

This evening, I go home earlier than usual. Besides it is Friday night, I also have nothing to do in the office since all reports were submitted to my Boss this morning. I happen to call my wife that is still in the office. She says her work will be accomplished in about thirty minutes so she could also be going home together with me. That’s great. Now I just have to wait for her coming out of her office.
Sitting on the park bench, I look at a new shoe store in the middle of the block across from the city park. This shoe store replaced an electronic warehouse that was noting good selling condition. What attracts me is that there have always one or two people coming in and out and other ones again and again since I sat down on the bench. This store must have something interesting inside that makes it visited more gradually.stylist shoes
When my wife comes out of her office and with her unforgettable smiles approaching me, I ask her whether she has time to see the shoe store I point at. She never refuses anything I offers that is why I will never let her go. Then, we both cross the street and shortly stand before the entrance of the store.
When we get inside, we are quite amazed with the complete collections of all kinds of shoes and foot wares. There are bike shoes, trail running shoes and other sports shoes at one corner; I could also see some pairs of golf shoes at the same corner that I wish to have. On the opposite corner, we could see some working and formal shoes made of fine leather and qualified synthetic. They are quite interesting.
Being well-arranged on an iron frame on the wall, some socks and stockings are attracting enough in various color and from different famous products. Down under the wall display, there are some collections of hosieries in differing styles. Now I wonder where my wife is.
Looking around I find her standing and holding a silver color of women shoes on the wedding shoe section. I remember that she wishes to have a pair of proper shoes for wedding parties of our relatives and friends. I approach her and she smiles at me asking whether she may take the pair she is holding. I have no trouble with anything if it could make her happy so I say Ok. She is so happy that she rushes out to the payment counter. Well, women are always like that.

Time to Shop

Oh No… Not again! I don’t believe my lovely blazer I bought last month doesn’t fit me anymore. I feel it get too tight on my waist! How could this be? Am I getting fatter? Or perhaps my blazer shrinks by itself? How strange? Actually, I realize that I didn’t do exercise much lately, too busy with my business trip for the whole week and I did not control my health condition. And this time, I also have no enough time but to stay in the office, arranging the business trip report to my Boss. I wish I could have chance to go out for some shops of women clothing.

Staring at my computer screen on my working desk, I happen to search for women ‘wardrobes’ sites as I know that those sites display a very excellent and trendy outfits for women form famous designers. After awhile, I come to a requested site and it shows me a huge number of choices of women clothing, from casual outfit to formal ones, relax clothing, maternity collection, uniform preferences, holiday sets and other more.
Since I am really in need of new blazer, I then move the computer mouse over the section of women formal clothes. In this section, I am so astonished with some outstanding blazers with pacifying color and nice designs. I am a little bit confused because all blazers on the screen are so cute that I wish I could get them all.

However, some holiday dressings apparently attract my attention. A nice petite T-shirt with calm color shorts equipped by comfortable-look sport shoes gives me an idea on what I will spend my weekend this week. I don’t think I will go on a travel again this weekend; I could be wearing this fantastic holiday set on the beach nearby or in the city park. But then, again, I realize that my waist has caused an extra problem with my performance; petite outfit does not seem to be a good idea for this time. I guess I have to search another for medium or even big size. Who knows, they will probably even be better than smaller size. Let’s try and see.

Everything on Display

This is it! I am so proud of my company new website, or it could be said web catalog of my recent products. I get it done by my friend completely in two weeks and everything is on display. This is what I am imagining my website to look like. Colorless and less of animation but it is pretty cool with some images of my recent products at the front page. Other pages are displaying all of my products with related information and quotation. Details are also available accordingly. Nothing is missing from this new performance.

There was nothing bad in my last website, but I wonder that not many visitors coming in taking a look at it. The previous website was actually excellent – not so far different from this new one though in the old website the color was too much and the products on display were still few. But I guess it was quite interesting to visit and see, and possible online contact was always available.

How could it be so poorly vacuumed?
I tell this problem to my friend and he says that what I need is to contact SEO PPC Agency to get support on display stairhow the website is working. I have no idea what he means, I think that my website is nice enough to see through and it will always be like that. Then he explains me a little bit about this SEO and PPC functioning to get my website get attention by other people.
I learn that good looking performance of a website doesn’t always guarantee that people will visit. I must make my website appear on the good position for people to see, just like banners by the streets, the closer our display to the people attention, the better possibilities it will be visited. This way will give me more chance to get contacts from visitors. And to come to this part, I need to get help from a SEO specialist.
I actually have no idea where and how to get contact with one, but my friend recommends me several online sites that offer this kind of service. Some SEO specialists are easily found through online contact to one of these suggested sites, and I am sure they will really be a big help for me.

Bushmills Irish Whiskey

Irish WhiskeyDriving along the spectacular Antrim coast you can just tell that this is good whiskey-making country. Soft pasture land, small rivers, natural harbours and a people who know that good things take time. It's a land where legend and fact become easily blurred, where folk tales take on the mantle of truth. Who knows when whiskey was first made here?

Some historians claim it started in 1276, though if the story of monks taking distilling with them when they went to convert the heathen Picts is true, it could be as far back at the 6th century. Authorization was given for whiskey to be legally made in the county in 1608, allowing Bushmills to claim that it has been making the stuff since then - and laying the foundations for some mighty craic in 2008!

Bushmills is significantly different to the other two Irish distilleries and takes you back to a time when all of Ireland's whiskey only came from pot stills. There again, this being Ireland, it's also atypical of the traditional Irish pot-still style insofar as it doesn't use a mix of malted and unmalted barley. But it's not quite like a typical Scottish malt distillery as it uses triple distillation and unpeated malt - though so do Auchentoshan and Springbank's Hazelburn.

It's a complex process, as master distiller David Quinn explains. 'After distilling the low wines in the second [or feints] still we take the strong feints forward to a third distillation which gives us a distillate at around 84%ABV. The weak feints get recycled in the second distillation with the head and tails from the third. What we're doing is leaving behind the heavier aspects of the spirit and shifting the flavour balance to more fragrant, lighter, sweeter fruity character'.

The distillery is only a few miles from the Giant's Causeway, a weird outcrop of hexagonal basalt pillars that look like a monstrous pipe organ which, legend would have it, was the southern end of a bridge linking Ireland with Fingal's Cave on the Hebridean island of Staffa. In many ways Bushmills is a modern day bridge between two whisk(e)y-making cultures. 'There's a lot of the tradition of Irish pot still whiskey making here,' says David. 'But by being a single malt we're moving into the Scottish tradition. Maybe we can claim that we take the best of both traditions! On a good day we can see Islay, it's only 16 miles, so that link has always been there - maybe starting with monks like St. Columba'. In more recent times, ex-manager Frank McHardy nipped across the sea to Campbeltown's Springbank distillery - no surprise he's behind the triple distilled, unpeated Hazelburn!

Where Bushmills differs from any Scottish distillery is by being home to blends as well as single malts - most importantly the magnificent Black Bush, a blend of 5Oper cent Bushmills single malt and grain from Midleton. Bushmills follows the Irish Distillers' policy of using a high percentage of first-fill sherry and Bourbon wood, both of them wood types packed with powerful flavours. The fact that David's light distillate isn't drowned out by these big flavours is testimony to some high-class blending skills.

'Getting the correct balance is vital. You could argue that with a delicate spirit it's even more vital that you get that flavour in correct balance with the wood. It also means we have to have top-quality wood. You can spend all the time in the world making a good distillate and then lose it by using substandard cooperage.' This shows best in the Triple Wood, a single malt initially aged in ex-Bourbon and sherry wood for 16 years before the two elements are married together and then recasked into port pipes for up to a year. Innovative, modern, yet in touch with the past - just like David and his team.

The Culture and Heritage of Indonesia's Clove Cigarettes

Rokok is cigarettes, kretek is clove flavored, so rokok kretek means clove flavored cigarettes or clove cigarettes. For many millions Javanese and Indonesians, kretek is enjoyable companion, tasteful, it gives a feeling of relief & relaxation and its price is nothing compare to the comfort given.
Clove tree In restaurants, pubs, bars, discotheques, public buildings and in many other places outdoor, the sweet smoke from kretek are smelt. This is a common sight, but nowadays, many sites are divided to smoking and non smoking areas. Some air conditioned buildings even declared as non smoking.

Brief history

Rokok kretek was invented by a man from the town of Kudus, 50 km eastward of Semarang in the early nineties AD. The man Noto Semito was from a long time suffering from cough and asthma. Desperate to cure his illness, he rolled tobacco mix with crushed cloves in dried corn leaves - this is the original kretek cigarettes.
The rokok klobot (klobot is dried corn leaves). After smoking these kretek he was cured and become healthier. He began to manufacture his new kretek cigarettes with trade mark of BAL TIGA (three balls). He actively marketed the kretek every where, through radio, touring vans with music and dancers, even by air dropping promotion leaflets.
He become a very successful business man, a billionaire. His steps was followed by many others and soon kretek industry was mushrooming also in other cities. The fate of Noto Semito, The Father of Kretek, ended tragically, he was bankrupt in 1953, crashed by his invented kretek vast industry.

The Present Day

The kretek follows 'modernization' in cigarettes industry. The new filter kretek are major products, the contents of crushed cloves are smaller, changed with clove essence. The crushed cloves are kept to maintain the voice of burning kretek - crakling : tek, tek, tek, from here comes the name of kretek.
The leaders of kretek nowadays are Djambu Bol, Sukun, Nojorono, Djarum (in Kudus and Central Java), Bentoel (in Malang), Gudang Garam (in Kediri) and Sampoerna (in Surabaya). There are also smaller manufacturers, such as Menara (in Solo), Pompa (in Semarang), etc. More than 95% of local smokers prefer kretek than rokok putih or white cigarettes - non clove cigarettes.
No one denies that kretek industry brings a huge sum of tax to the state purse and millions of people depend their income to this chains of business, starting from the tobacco and clove farmers, workers at the factories, sellers in many shops and stalls, truckers, involved in this industry and it's worth to note - their families.

Tobacco Connoisseur

The kretek factories absorb a lot of tabacco. The buyers - mainly the kretek producers, they hire several connoisseurs, experts of tobacco, to secure the quality of their products. They are very well paid. No doubt of their specific expertise. Only by smelling the wet tobacco leaves or dried cut tobacco leaves, high qualified connoisseur should know precisely the origin of the tobacco. It is from Wonosobo , Magelang or Boyolali (Central java) or from Besuki (East Java), and knows the harvest year of every tobacco tested. The testing is important as prices differs from region to region.

Where to Buy

Most tobacco stores carry clove cigarettes. Try the local mall, Some convenience stores carry them, but not the major chains. You will have much better luck finding clove cigarettes at family-owned and operated convenience stores, especially stores owned by recent immigrants to the United States (since they tend to have more knowledge of clove cigarettes). But due to the high taxes of cigarettes people like to look for altervative sources. The best place to get your clove cigarettes without have to pay these high taxes is the internet. You can search the internet and you will find lots of websites selling clove cigarettes. One of the most trusted website that sells clove cigarettes is myKretek.com - The Original Indonesian Clove Cigarettes Online Store .With a long history in the clove cigarettes business and over 6 years of online experience, myKretek.com not only offers genuine products at competitive prices they also guarantee that all of their products are freshly supplied to the customers for their full satisfaction.

Reasonable Webhosting

A word of ‘cheap’ is not always a bad thing. In this case, the word has a tendency of competitive price or ‘low-cost’ services. It is most people in common consider in looking for. Having lunch in a cafĂ© or food counter is sometimes the choice of avoiding high level restaurants that need bigger budget to come out. In choosing foods and drinks for lunch or dinner, people tend to check out in advance the prices on the menu unless for them who have been familiar with the menu or as a customers at the place.

Budgeting is always the basic essence of human in getting something he needs. It is wise though it needs an extra energy and brain work. Well, it is apparently an invisible extra cost. In the world of internet, many things could be found with reasonable prices – from the machines, accessories, clothes, delivery services, rents, hotel accommodations and some others; even, the web domain and host used are sometimes coming from a cheap provider! This is a good thing to know. An affordable web hosting does not always come up with a very poor service.

But how this could be? It is indeed while everyone seems to look for best places to put their database, a lot of servers offer hosts for the data and compete to give very good prices and services. Of course there are some limitations in every price; storage capacity could come with different size to another different price, downloading speeds sometimes differ from low to high price, webmail services are sometimes only available at higher cost and other differences. This is usually related to the way we, as clients, rent out dedicated servers with a decent hard drive and bandwidth quota. This will help keep the price of hosting services normal and should also mean better service for the customers since, again, there are many hosts competing for their business.

The Thrill Of Fugu

There's a certain weird appeal to the Japanese delicacy known as fugu. After all, it's not every day that the food on your plate could bring about almost instant death.

Fugu is the Japanese name for the blowfish, also known as the pufferfish, which has the ability to puff up to twice its size and project poisonous spikes to defend itself from predators. The spikes of a blowfish contain tetradotoxin, a poison considered to be at least one thousand times deadlier than cyanide. Theoretically, the poison from one blowfish could kill up to 30 people.

Fugu is served raw, and its widespread fame and notoriety doesn't come from its taste. In fact, it's been described as a fairly bland, delicately flavored fish that doesn't hold a candle to the more popular forms of Japanese seafood. It's a widely accepted fact that the danger element is what draws people to this peculiar delicacy.

In the world of Japanese cuisine, it takes approximately 10 years of rigorous training and a special licensing program before a chef can consider himself skilled in the art of preparing fugu. It is estimated that about 6 people a year in Japan die from eating improperly prepared fugu, and the deaths are usually those of inexperienced chefs who are testing their own handiwork. Approximately 60% of people who consume improperly prepared fugu will die from the poison, which leads to paralysis and respiratory failure. Japanese lore holds that a chef who prepares fugu incorrectly and thus kills his consumer must take the honorable way out and disembowel himself.

Licensed fugu chefs are carefully taught which parts of the fish are edible, and which parts contain the deadly tetrodotoxin. The slices required to remove the toxic parts of the fish are delicate and require a skilled hand and a knowledge of exactly what to cut away. Fugu chefs study and memorize the exact layout of the fish and the location of every drop of poison, and learn how to remove it without removing the precious meat surrounding it.

Understandably, with all of this training and care required, eating fugu is not exactly a cheap thrill. Fugu first arrived on American shores in 1989, during the boom of Japanese economy, but since the 1990s it has dwindled in popularity and is now mostly found only in areas of New York and the west coast. Japanese restaurants in America that serve fugu generally import the fish from Japanese chefs who have already removed the poison and purified the meat. Even without a fugu chef on staff, restaurants can charge upwards of $150 for a plate of this exotic fish. But New York city chefs have adamantly stated that no one in the US has died from improperly prepared fugu since it came to this country in 1989. And for some thrill-seekers, it might be worth the price.

Rediscover Tea - A Personal Story

I grew up in a tea farm about 20 miles from Taimu Mountain in eastern Fujian province of China. Fujian is one of the major tea growing regions in China. The famous Oolong tea Iron Goddess (aka Tie Kuan Yin) is from southern Fujian. Taimu Mountain is the origin of the exotic White tea.

I spent most of my early childhood in a tea farm with my parents and three brothers and a sister along many other families and their playful kids.

The farm is very large with two separate locations on two different mountains several miles apart. Aside tea growing and processing, the farm also grew crops and raised boars. The farm was state owned. The majority of the workers were young single man and women. Some of them just graduated from high schools. This is during the time of Cultural Revolution when every graduate was sent to a remote farm to learn from the physical work. For most kids, there was no chance to go to college at that time. We all lived in the same apartment building and shared a big dinning hall. It was like a big family.

As a kid, I went to the tea garden with my mother and other women to pluck the tea leaves during the day. My father who was the accountant inspected and weighed the leaves at the workshop. The women were paid according to the weight of the leaves they plucked. Night time was when the tea processing began. The farm mostly produced green teas. The processing involved the drying of tea leaves by firing and frying. The process was continued overnight. The workers took a break in the mid night and had snacks, typically a bowl of congee or noodle. I along with other kids would stay late until it was snack time so that we got our share. It is not because we helped in any way; it was just because we were kids. Some times, we even slept in the workshop. We would take a large linen bag used for storing tea leaves and used it as a sleeping bag. One night, my cousin tied my older brother’s bag while he was sleeping sound. Later on, my brother woke up and tried to go to bathroom and could not get out. Unfortunately, he wet himself.

After tea leaves were processed, some of them became broken. The broken pieces need to be separated out form the whole leaves by hands. I would join my mother and other women in this effort. Picking out the smaller broken pieces was a painstaking manual process and required a great deal of eyes and hands coordination. The faster one could pick, the more she would handle and the more she would get paid. The outcome was inspected to make sure the tea is free of broken pieces.

Our farm was not a tea refinery where teas are further processed and packaged for final distribution to stores. The coarse teas were transported by feet from the farm to a refinery in the town many miles away. This was the time when we got to go with to visit the town and get our hair cuts, get good snacks and buy industrial products made in big and famous cities like Shanghai.

I moved to my home town about 30 miles away to live with my grandparents and to attend school when I was about eight years old. Since then, I only visited the farm during the summer break.

Chinese people recognize tea as one of the seven necessities of living. Every family, poor or rich, one person or several generations under the roof, all have tea and use it as a way of receiving and entertaining guests. It is a custom that you greet a guest with a bowl of hot tea. Most of times some home made snacks are also served along with the tea. There was no soda, no ice cream when I was a kid. Only tea and the courteous receptions I got from other families as I visited them. Those moments are in my sweet memories and are very much missed as I now live a modern life in the industrialized society full of all kinds of gadgets and gismos along with the fast and convenient sodas and ice creams, thousands of miles away from where I am from.

I came to the states at the end of 1990 as a graduate student. Since then I have joined millions of people here in the pursuit of prosperity. I worked at one job to another, moved from one city to another. I raised one kid to and now two and tried to make the ends meet. Soda had taken the place of tea with its convenience when the fast-paced living leaves me with no time and no mood for tea. I had no tea for about 15 years until two years back when I went to visit my home town and brought back some teas. Now I am reunited with tea and started enjoying and learning more about it.

Tea takes me home each and every day with its refreshing and reflective aroma and taste, even though I am oceans and continents apart from my root.

When attending a party, whether your guests be close friends, family members, neighbors, or coworkers, everyone expects to arrive at a clean house.  That is why it may be a good idea for you to clean all the glass in your home, dust everything, as well as vacuum your home or sweep your floors. You will want to place a focus on the rooms that your guests will be using the most, such as the kitchen, bathroom, dining room, or living room.

There is also a good chance that you will have decorations that you need to hang up; what is a good Thanksgiving party without Thanksgiving decorations?  Whether you have Thanksgiving streamers, balloons, or just table centerpiece decorations, you may want to set them up the day or two before your Thanksgiving party.  Setting them up early, but not too early, will ensure that all of your decorations are up in enough time, but not enough time for them to get dirty or ruined.

It is also extremely important that you make sure you have enough furniture to accommodate all of your guests.  If your party guests will also be eating dinner at your Thanksgiving party, you will need to make sure that you have enough seating arrangements.  For a large dinner party, it may be a good idea to purchase or rent additional table and chairs. If you need to rent table and chairs, it may be a good idea to put in your rental request early, just in case.  Even if you are only having a Thanksgiving party with snacks and drinks, it is still important to make sure that you have enough chairs for all of your guests; however, extra tables may not necessarily be needed.

In addition to preparing the inside of your home, it may also be a good idea to prepare the outside of it as well.  If you have any garbage or debris around the entranceway to your home, it may be a good idea to remove it.  Depending on where you live, your weather may include snow.  If your walkways are covered with snow or ice, it may be a good idea to clean them, particularly right before your guests are about to arrive. You may also want to think about the parking arrangements, especially if you are planning on having a big party.  You may want to clear as many spots in your driveway or in your yard as you can.

Practices to Enhance Marketing of Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are usually more difficult to market than to produce. There are ready markets available daily or weekly for grain and livestock in almost all areas of the United States. There are few similar markets for fruits and vegetables. Most commodities are produced in abundance and long established market channels may be closed to small scale or new producers.

A producer may need several years to establish a marketing program. The number of produce buyers has decreased rapidly in recent years. One major nationwide supermarket chain has plans to consolidate the number of buying stations for produce to eight in the United States. A grower has little chance of selling to a local store in a supermarket chain as purchases are made through a central warehouse. As the number of buyers has decreased, the number of producers has decreased, but their acreage has increased considerably. There is often a delay of four to six months after shipment in receiving payment in the wholesale market system when selling through a broker. This often presents a cash flow problem for many growers. Wholesale buyers have strict and specific product quality, grade, and packaging requirements. These purchasing practices and price squeezes have eliminated market availability to many producers.

The future shows more promise for large scale producers or small scale producers than for mid sized producers. The large scale producer can afford the large equipment needed for production, and the use of migrant labor. Small scale producers can use smaller equipment, often hand operated, and family or local labor to substitute for other equipment. Large producers are linked through brokers to supply produce over a relatively long season or year round and it is difficult for small scale producers to supply the quantity and quality required over a long period. Both types of producers can be highly successful or can go broke as production and marketing practices are highly volatile. A mid sized producer is less efficient, and often can't economically justify the purchase of needed equipment or substitute labor for equipment.

The small scale producer needs to seek local market channels. There are opportunities, but a producer must work to find them. Direct to the consumer markets bring highest prices to the producer, but also require more producer time in marketing. A diverse group of crops is ideal, since market demand changes rapidly. A commodity may sell well and bring high prices for a long period, but demand and prices may drop drastically over night. Supply and demand has a tremendous effect on marketability and prices of produce.

There are no federal support prices for fruits and vegetables to help the grower when market demand or prices drop. Pick-your-own was a popular practice a few years ago. Society has changed and many people do not have time for harvest. Most consumers would rather buy produce that is harvested, and a popular developing trend is to prepare produce for the market that is as near ready to eat as possible. Precut salads and green beans are good examples of this practice. Shelf life of precut produce is relatively short, and cooling is essential.

There are opportunities for small scale producers for on-farm markets, organized farm markets, locally owned supermarkets, and locally owned fruit and vegetable markets. When selling to any market, and especially to local supermarkets or fruit and vegetable markets, good communication between producer and buyer is essential. A producer needs to know what, when, and how much the buyer can use. The buyer needs to know what is available and when, as he has to keep the shelves stocked. Determining a fair price can be difficult. Daily market prices are available on the internet. County Extension personnel can access this information for producers. Retailers generally double the price paid to account for shrinkage and spoilage.

Crop and variety selection are critical factors in marketing. Buyers are indifferent to the origin of most crops. Locally grown produce is much preferred versus other crops, primarily due to the difference in quality (flavor). Preferences for locally grown fruit and vegetable crops are apparent for sweet corn, tomatoes, strawberries, and peaches. These commodities either are harvested for shipping before top quality is attained, or rapidly lose quality during post harvest handling and shipping.

Different varieties may be used in shipping markets as compared to local markets. The sweet corn shipping market uses mostly supersweet type varieties. Local markets may use supersweet type varieties, but usually prefer SE or SU type varieties. Certain crops or varieties are preferred in specific locations, and a ready local market may exist for a specific item that is not widely available.

A local Crossville, Tennessee market owner recently shared a list of items that he had difficulty in obtaining, and that he needed during the summer season. His list included Half Runner, McCaslan, Caseknife and Greasy beans; pickling cucumbers of 1.5 to 2 inch diameter; fresh highly flavored sweet corn (yellow, white and bicolor); Red Cayanne pepper; colored bell pepper; Kennebec and Yukon Gold potatoes; watermelons (seedy and seedless), strawberries; greenhouse tomatoes (fall, winter, and spring seasons); and highly flavored local tomatoes in the summer season. He had an idea for a tomato festival that included tomato varieties not routinely found in regular market channels. This would include Rutgers, Celebrity, cherry, beefsteak, pink, yellow, yellow and red striped, and pear shaped varieties. Many of these varieties are less productive and have other production problems, but have excellent flavor compared to the standard commercial hybrid varieties. There is a marketing opportunity through this market at Crossville, and similar situations probably exist in most locations in the United States. A producer needs to search for such market opportunities.
The budgets and profitability of crops is another factor in production.

Tomatoes have consistently been the most profitable crop for Tennessee producers. Greenhouse production is completely different, but is a rapidly growing enterprise in Tennessee. Sweet corn can be profitable, especially if a high plant population is used to provide high yields. We are planting twice the population (23,500 plants/A) than was planted several years ago, and are evaluating spacings for higher populations. Budgets that detail costs of production and likely returns are available for most crops, or a grower can develop their own budget.

Tree fruit production does not fit well into small scale agricultural production. The time between planting a tree and the first economic fruit harvest is relatively long. Large equipment is necessary to apply pesticides 10 to 12 times annually starting at the first bud break. Many pesticides are restricted use, and require special handling procedures. Trees need to be pruned at planting and annually in late winter.

Grapes offer some opportunity, but strawberries and blueberries are small fruit that offer more opportunity for small scale producers. Large fruit are required for successful marketing of strawberries and blueberries. Drip irrigation is needed in most areas for stand establishment and crop production. Overhead sprinkler irrigation is often necessary for frost protection. Strawberry production systems are changing from matted row to annual production. The culture of each system is entirely different.

Harvest of fruit and vegetable crops at the proper maturity is essential. Many crops have a very narrow harvest window, and proper maturity is needed to insure a marketable product. Crops that producers tend to harvest early are sweet corn and bell pepper. Sweet corn that is not fully mature has less flavor, and little usable grain. Immature bell pepper pods wilt rapidly and are not attractive. Crops that can easily be harvested too late are sweet corn, bell pepper, and green beans. Bell pepper may be harvested with some color showing. Most markets want a green or colored pepper pod, and not a partially colored pod. Sweet corn and green beans become tough rapidly is allowed to become overmature. Tomatoes are best harvested in the pink stage and harvesting twice a week may be needed for proper maturity. Pink tomatoes have full flavor. Fruit rot, cracking, and bruising may be less when harvest is at the pink stage.

Packaging of produce is a critical factor in marketing. Containers should protect the product and be attractive. Standard packs vary according to the type of product and the market demand, but many buyers require the use of standard size containers. Some routine container sizes are half bushels, bushels, 1 + 1/9 bushel, standard sweet corn crates to hold 4 ½ dozen ears, and pints or quarts for berries. Many different types of materials are used in containers. Waxed pasteboard cartons are very widely used. Snap bean and sweet corn buyers often prefer wire bound wooden boxes. Melons are often sold in bulk cardboard boxes that hold approximately 250 muskmelon. Many markets may require specific counts and product size. for the container.

Peppers and tomatoes are specific crops sold by uniform size. Peppers are usually boxed as extra large (40 to 50 -pods/1 + 1/9 bushel) to small (70 to 80 pods/1 + 1/9 bu box). This relatively uniform size allows the retail vendor to sell pepper pods by count. Prepacking in small consumer packages such as 3 potatoes or tomatoes is becoming more of a demand at the producer level. Local markets may have more or less stringent packaging requirements.

Product identification can be a useful tool in marketing. Certain areas or growers have developed a name for their product. Some examples are Vidalia onions, Granger County tomatoes, Washington apples, and Idaho potatoes. Product identification can work well for anyone who wants to stress and maintain quality. It should pay in repeat sales and prices received by the grower. We are considering this approach in Tennessee for Tri-X-Shadow seedless watermelon which has exceptional quality. An identification label could be attached to each melon citing the identification (maybe Tennessee Seedless).

Harvested fruits and vegetables are perishable, and quality loss starts immediately after harvest. Rapid marketing to insure freshness is a desirable feature of locally grown produce. Produce, not sold immediately, needs to be stored properly to maintain appearance, flavor, and quality. Time of harvest, cooling, and storing in shaded areas will help retain quality. Produce harvested early in the morning is cooler than if harvest is later in the day.

Quality of products such as green beans, sweet corn, peppers, and peaches benefit from hydrocooling. Hydrocooled produce needs to be kept in a cooler to maintain the proper storage temperature after hydrocooling. Products such as broccoli and sweet corn benefit from storage with ice in the container or placed on ice to maintain a low temperature and to avoid drying of the produce. Produce that has been cooled, should be maintained in cool.

The ego that obscures your peace

They represent the little things that you take for who you are: Your likes, dislikes, loves, hatreds. They are the history that you can’t let go of. They are your memories, your hopes and dreams. They are your little habits, your hobbies, your mannerisms. All these, each one a mark, combine to make your personality, your ego, your identity.

But what is your personality? It is something that you have mistaken for yourself. Almost everybody does – they don’t know any better. Ask anybody who they are, and most likely they will tell you their name, their age, their job, their race, their gender, their history, dreams, likes and dislikes. They define themselves by these.

These are all part of your personality. But they are merely about you. But they are not you. They merely describe you, but somehow we have reduced ourselves to these descriptions, these little details. We have forgotten who we are; we’ve forgotten the true core and consciousness that has been covered by all these details. And it’s sad, because the core contains everything we seek – everything we look for in the goals we chase – unshakeable peace and joy.

Read this post, and then read all the previous posts – even the ones based on modern psychology, whether they are on anger, sadness, forgiveness or happiness…you’ll find this truth hidden in there somewhere.

Stop the thoughts before they overtake you. Stop the emotions before they take you over. Stop the ego from telling you that things shouldn’t be this way. They all lead to one teaching – stop the ego from marring your peace. Most methods, from old religions, to modern psychology, are based around this – they just describe it in a different way. Either that or they are ignorant of the core consciousness and don’t mention it.

Cars and Air Conditioners

We are so used to the concept of an air conditioner that we hardly take notice of it. That is only until it stops working. And then we have a serious issue at hand and at times we are clueless as to what exactly the problem is and how to tackle it.

The air conditioners have become so integral to our lives that we cannot think of living without it. First it came to our offices and factories. Then we brought them to our homes. And now we have them even in our cars. Come to think of it, it is actually essential to have an air conditioner in your car. Of course the interiors of a car is more affected by the heat of the sun than the interiors of your house or office are. And there would be additional heat from the engine to deal with. So it is quite necessary to have a car air conditioned. And it is equally important to see to it that you take proper care of the unit so that it delivers when you need it to and doesn't break down.

It has been seen these days that to repair older air conditioners it is costing one a few hundred bucks more than it used to. This is primarily because of the regulations that have brought about a change in the refrigerants being used. The previously used R-12 refrigerant, popularly known as Freon has been replaced by R-134a. This is considered to be environmentally safer.

Since you cannot mix the two kinds of refrigerants, so any repair now would mean that you have to flush out the existing refrigerant and fill it up with the newer approved refrigerant. This will obviously increase the costs of fixing your car air conditioner.

The best way to avoid costly repairs would be to check the auto air conditioning system once every year. There are many automotive service station which would provide special check-ups before the summer seasons. You can also go for a bundle check-up where your entire car, including the air conditioner is fine tuned. This would also cut down your maintenance costs.

Since having an air conditioner in your car is a sizeable investment it would be prudent to have it functioning properly. If that would mean regular check-ups then so be it. And it is only once a year. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
